The only man who has ever come close to meeting FMC Joonie’s romantic and personal needs is the star of her favourite romance series – Ryke, an attractive merman. Joonie’s life changes when she discovers that Ryke’s inspired by a real person, and the man doesn’t live too far from her! Joonie embarks on a road trip to meet the real-life Ryke with the only person she can find to carpool with her – her brother’s best friend! Along the way, she ends up learning more about herself, and those closest to her, than anyone else! What I liked about the book is the development of Joonie’s character and the backstory of why she got into romance novels and writing fan fictions. I do wish there was more development to the character of the brother’s best friend, like Joonie does with Ryke.

What I liked about this audiobook: Narrator Samara Naeymi provides excellent pacing of narration, clarity of voice, lots of personality and emotions to each character. Really captured the FMC’s emotions and personality at both highs an lows of the journey.

The only thing I didn’t like (which is more of a subjective ick, nothing wrong with the narrator herself) is when the female voice acts for the male characters too.
